For those who enjoy partaking in surfing, windsurfing may just be the next step when searching for a different kind of fun. However, not everyone knows exactly how to start that first windsurfing journey or what is necessary in order for it to work as planned. This article aims to dissolve that confusion and provide a simple guide for those looking to take the next step in the world of water sports.

Begin by positioning the board into the wind. The idea of windsurfing is, of course, to surf into the wind. Therefore, it is necessary to position the board so that the wind may be permitted to blow across it. once this is so, navigate the sail such that the mast not only is parallel to the board, but also extends past the board’s tail. The sail’s clew must be pointed downwind.

Pull the mast horizontally and into the wind while placing the back foot onto the board. Proceed by swinging the mast forward, steering a broadreach by using traditional downwind surfing. At this point, the wind should catch the sail; allow the wind to sweep the rest of the weight of the body by the back foot, rolling up the body onto the board. Kick the front foot in order to provide a better boost while rolling upward.

Carefully step into the board’s center line and hook into the harness lines. Simply step back, stepping into the foot saddles, then proceed to sail across the water. The sailing will be akin to a skipping stone’s movement.
